Within a short time, Loki lost the ability to walk. His hind legs limp, he seemed to have lost his dignity and joy. The following week required constant care and attention. Mostly because I didn't want him to feel alone. My son Tyler arrived from Flagstaff, AZ in time to assist Loki on short walks, supported with a towel beneath his belly. He cleaned his soiled bedding, coaxed him to relieve himself with massage. Tyler and I wanted to make Loki feel happy again. We realized his comfort and peace was all we could hope. Happiness would have been swimming in the Tennessee River or hanging out of the car window. But it was in the darkness of those long last few nights he required us most. Today we took him on his last green walk. Stopping to say goodbye to my youngest son, who loved him since he was 14 we sat him down for a photo with Sky. This day was hard for Loki and the humans who loved him. He was such a fine animal and friend.
